Lately, I have a problem with some Win10 PCs that download the approved updates but they do not install the updates. It stays like this for days and nothing happens. The clients updated this morning. Not sure why, but this did the trick. I ran into the same problem, as the update process has changed since Windows 8. I have updates if available scheduled to install every day at noon, with no restart in Active hours.
Our users shut down every night, so the update process is finished at that time. If they do not shut down, and nothing else is running then, the PC will restart if needed outside of Active hours.
If the PC has not been restarted in 3 days, then the user will get a message saying the PC needs to restart. Since doing that, my Windows 10 PCs have been getting the updates with no issues. I have found that updates will only install when the computer is turned off and on again when downloaded automatically. Sometimes, when scheduled, it requires the user to confirm the reboot.
